Skipping a box
We know that sometimes a book just isn't for you, or life gets in the way.
Skips are designed to give you flexibility while keeping subscriptions fair for everyone.
You can skip up to 3 boxes within a 12-month period (3 out of 6 per subscription year) and no more than 3 boxes in a row without losing your subscription spot:
- Your subscription year starts with the first box you receive.
For example, if you first receive a July box, your skip allowance will reset every July.
- To be fair to all our customers, skipping more than 3 boxes in a row—even if that crosses into your next subscription year—will result in the cancellation of your subscription so spots can be opened for others.
- Skips are here to give you flexibility and control over your subscription.

How our subscriptions work
Bi-monthly means every two months.
Each subscription renews six times per year, once for each box in its schedule.
Each subscription is billed every two months on a fixed schedule, based on the box you choose:
- Fantasy Romance and Contemporary Romance months are: January, March, May, July, September and November
- Dark Romance months are: February, April, June, August, October and December.
Your subscription payment covers one box at a time.
When you sign up, your first payment will be made immediately. Renewal payments will be scheduled for 2pm AEST on the 1st of the month your box is scheduled for (for example, February boxes are billed on 1 February).
Yes. You can subscribe to any combination of Fantasy, Dark and Contemporary.
Each box is carefully curated so that there is never any overlap of titles between them.
We announce the featured author and book in the middle of the month prior to the renewal month, typically between the 15th and 18th.
For example, the March box is revealed in mid-February. This gives subscribers time to see the upcoming selection before renewal payments are processed on the 1st.
Yes. After the author reveal, we share the main dust jacket and sprayed edges before renewal payments are processed.
This usually happens about a week after the initial author announcement.
The rest of the design details are revealed when your box arrives on your doorstep, so there are still a few surprises to discover.
Some editions may include NSFW artwork on internal pages, back endpages, or as an additional art print.
We will let you know in the author announcement if there will be NSFW artwork included.
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your customer account. If your subscription has already renewed for an upcoming box, cancelling will prevent future renewals, but will not cancel an order that has already been charged.
Cancelling all of your subscriptions also means you will no longer receive subscriber benefits, including subscriber pricing and early access to eligible sales and preorders. If you subscribe again in the future, your subscriber benefits will return once your subscription is active.
Subscription Editions vs. Exclusive Editions
You'll see two types of special editions at Bookish & Spice.
Subscription Editions are the books featured in our subscription boxes and are secured for active subscribers.
Exclusive Editions are special editions offered separately through our preorder and sales system.

Subscribers receive early access to Extra Stock Sales, where remaining Subscription Editions may be offered at a later date.
